The advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, through 8 p.m. Thursday, June 19, as dangerously high temperatures and humidity grip the region.

“Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses,” officials said in the advisory issued at 2:22 a.m. Wednesday.

- Oppressive humidity making it feel much hotter than it is
The Mount Holly weather office warned that those most at risk include young children, older adults, and people with chronic health conditions.
“Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors,” officials said.
They also urge residents to wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and to limit outdoor activity to early morning or evening.
⛈️ Storms Still a Threat
In addition to the heat, isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible Wednesday afternoon and evening, with damaging wind gusts a concern. The threat continues Thursday with a slight chance of hail or a tornado, according to the NWS.
More intense heat is expected to build again by Sunday and peak early next week.
