California Woman Admits To $800,000 Fraud: Morris County Prosecutor
A 63-year-old California woman pleaded guilty on Tuesday, Jan. 21 to defrauding a Hanover Township resident out of more than $800,000, authorities said.
In 2023, Anna Marie Bustamante posed as an authorized vendor when the victim sent her $806,727.92, via a bank account that was made to resemble the bank account of the authorized vendor, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said.
As part of her plea agreement with prosecutors, Bustamante is expected to be sentenced to 364 days in the Morris County Correctional Center as a condition of probation, authorities said.

Stephen Gallagher, Former Police Chief In Morris County, Dies At 66
Stephen Gallagher, who served as police chief in Hanover Township, died recently at the age of 66, according to his obituary.
Born in Montclair, Gallagher spent most of his life in Morris Plains and had recently moved to Waretown, his obituary reads. After earning his degree from the College of St. Elizabeth, Gallagher became Chief of Police for the Township of Hanover, retiring in 2016 after 34 years serving the township, according to his obituary.

Nearly 3.5 Pounds Of Meth And Narcotics Seized, 2 Charged In North Jersey Bust
Just under three and a half pounds of methamphetamine and narcotics were seized and two residents hit with a slew of charges in a major North Jersey drug bust, authorities said.
A package addressed to a hotel in Hanover Township on Nov. 24 was found to contain about 500 grams of methamphetamine, Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll said in a Thursday release.
A follow-up investigation determined that Barbara Maronpot, 67, and Christopher Gallaway, 48, both of Morristown, were the intended recipients of the package, authorities said.
